Thanks. I hate the thought of in six months having all of 10 signatures. One problem is that fans have seen these petitions before and feel they're useless, so they pass on signing them. No offense to those people but, well- that's moronic. Since I have email addresses to various people at Sony linked to this petition, it means that they'll get annoyed every time someone signs it. That's one of the reasons I had to find some email addresses. If people were signing it without getting Sony to get peeved then it wouldn't do any good. Even though it's likely (which sucks) that such emails get filtered, there still are people that have to make sure something important *isn't* being filtered. Therefore, there really is always *someone* that is essentially forced to take notice. They may roll their eyes but that's too bad for them :)

Names on a petition will not convince Sony to release more of Maude or any other show. The only thing they look at are sales and from their standpoint, Season 1 didn't sell well enough for them to release any more seasons. The problem with big studios like Sony is that they have massive bureaucracies with dozens of departments all of which have to become involved in producing and releasing DVDs, which results in big overhead costs. What that means is that for a TV series on DVD to be profitable, it must sell a ton of units which a older show like Maude is unlikely to generate.

But fortunately, there are independent companies like Shout and MPI which are small and have very lean operations. These companies can release these older shows and turn a profit because they have low overhead costs. Shout acquired All in the Family from Sony and released season 7-9 and have just announced they have also licensed Barney Miller from Sony and will release the entire series in October. So, if you want to see more Maude, try contacting Shout and ask them to consider acquiring that show. They have a message board so take advantage of it to make your thoughts known to them.

On December 2, 2014 it was announced that Shout! Factory had acquired the rights to "Maude" and will release the complete series on DVD on March 17, 2015.
