Was Maude first woman to run for office on TV?

I'm wondering if Maude was the first woman character that ran for a political office. Writing a paper and the little factoids like this really help.

In the very early 60's Ellie Walker ran for town council on The Andy Griffith Show.

Yeah, but Andy wasn't passed out in some hotel room with a hooker played by Bernadette Peters. If he was, Charlene Darling would've boiled a dead rabbit in his kitchen. Yeah, Charlene Darling, tv's first stalker psycho.
