I like Bea Arthur better in this.

Than I do in "Golden Girls". As 'Dorothy' in "Golden...", I think she tries too hard to be like 'Maude', and it doesn't work.

I as I stated before, I never was THAT big of a fan of Golden Girls. I was always more of a fan of Maude. It seemed more colorful...

They were allowed to do more back then actually.

It does seem like she is playing the same character with a different name.

Maude was a tad more ascerbic. She was more political and angry. Dorothy seemed like a mellowed out Maude!

Still, Bea Arthur maintained the same razor sharp comedy timing with Dorothy.

Today I purchased a DVD collection of several of the old sitcoms and there was four episodes of 'Maude.' I forgot just how unfunny it was (at least these episodes) especially compared to 'The Golden Girls.' The Golden Girls was always funny.

I think as the characters Dorothy was a lot smarter than Maude ever was.

reply

I agree. Dorothy didn't have the bite or wit that Maude had. Maude had a lot of anger too. Dorothy never had that.

Maude was younger and did not understand how the world fully worked was still mouthing off for the sake of it.

Dorothy was a Maude who had already lived through the world and survived some learned some and won some.
