Sherman T. Potter

Did they ever say what the T stood for? I know they never said what Klinger's Q stood for.

The T stands for Tecumseh.

That's a little known trivia fact for this show.

Thank you, very much

Hey, no problem. In the story, Potter had been named after Union General William Tecumseh Sherman, who was in fact a real General in the Civil War.One of those things I always remembered about him and the show.

What episode was his middle name mentioned?

Wow, good question. As many times as I've seen every episode, it's been awhile since I've watched it. Now that AMC is rerunning them on Sunday mornings, maybe I'll catch the episode it's revealed, though I have the entire series on DVD. It wasn't mentioned that General Sherman was a Civil War Union General. That was something I already knew.

Nowadays, Tecumseh is most associated with engines. I first learned of the name through Native American association. Also, the famous Tecumseh valley that Townes Van Zandt would eventually write a song about. His name, along with being from Hannibal, Missouri, that gave him a good back story that fit his long military career.

Wonder if we google it, it would say which episode that's revealed.I want to say that's also a question on the old MASH trivia board game.

I remember you,FatherMulcahyFan. You've been around this board for a long time. Been a good while, but I used to be a regular around here. Guess until TVLand took off the reruns and I found interest in other shows.

I remember one episode in which Frank is complaining about having to operate on Koreans while Hawkeye operates on Americans, by saying "Pierce gets the cowboys, and I always get the Indians" Only to have Potter turn to him and say that he is part Indian.

I never knew that. Thanks as well.

I'm not sure, but whatever you do, make sure there's enough "swoop" in the "T"..
