Well...I have season 4...and while Im in Australia I actually got it from a British seller on eBay...However its not an official release...Id suggest trying eBay as you will find most of them on there and Im sure Ive recently seen a season 4 DVD set (official) on there. of course, I could be wrong and it could be a bootleg...Just check first.

Hi Jennifer,
Series 4 of Love Thy Neighbour appears NOT to be available on DVD in the UK but if you know the facts you will find that you probably already own it. Heres how (information supplied from comedy reference books)

A company called Pegasus released the first 3 series on DVD and they totally cocked up the number of episodes on each release. This is what is ACTUALLY on those releases

Series 1 - This DVD release features all 7 episodes AND the elusive pilot, so thats released correctly.

Series 2 - This DVD release features 10 episodes BUT series 2 only had 6 episodes in it SO that means this release ALSO has the first 4 episodes of series 3 on it.

Series 3 - This DVD release features 10 episodes, the first 2 are the final 2 episodes of Series 3 and the next 8 are in fact the entire run of Series 4 (7 normal length episodes and one extended new year special).

-------

SO you can see that in these 3 volumes you have in fact got all of the first 4 series, crazy the way Pegasus mucked up the releases BUT when you know the facts it makes a bit more sense and like me your probably happy to learn you have the LOST season already.

It explains why the new company releasing the remaining series (there were 8 series in total, only series 8 left to release on dvd and its due soon)decided to start releasing from series 5, if they had done a series 4 one it would confuse folk and theyd find they had bought stuff they already owned. At least the new company is releasing the series on 1 disk instead on needlessly spreading them out over more disks like Pegasus did AND the new company is keeping the design/look of the packaging the same (colours, typeface etc).

Dont forget to buy the LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR film on DVD which is superb and lets hope the follow up series (which ran for only 1 series in 1980) LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR IN AUSTRALIA is released eventually here in the UK, its available in Australia so you could buy a copy from the Australian EBay site and it works fine on British machines....oh and there was a short Love Thy Neighbour special done as part of ALL STAR COMEDY CARNIVAL in 1972, wish that would appear as an extra on some dvd!

One final...worrying point...the DVD release of Series 5 has 6 episodes on and claims to be the full series BUT the reference book (Radio Times Guide To TV Comedy) says the series had 7 episodes!!! so there may be one missing, apparently the last episode is missing from the DVD and is called APRIL FOOLS or (depending on what info you believe) APRILS FOOL, the box of the DVD claims its the complete series but words it thus "ALL SIX EPISODES OF SERIES 5 WHICH WERE ORIGINALLY BROADCAST IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH 1974" which kind of covers them since the missing episode was broadcast in April, crafty huh! Wonder why its missing...is the episode itself missing from the vaults or is it a particularly racist episode they didnt want to put out...wish we had some answers.

Isnt Jack Smethurst a superb comedy actor!

Wow thanks pal ive been trying to get info on this for ages kind of been doing my head in. Ive got the movie as well bit i kind of think it doesnt quite work as well in a feature length episode as it does as a 30 min comedy series thanks also for letting me know about the aussie version didnt even know that existed.
Finally yeah i think Jack Smethurst is a brilliant comedy actor right up there with the best of them. Thanks again pal

Ive just sent a letter to Jack via his agent in Manchester, will let you know if he responds. I recommend you buy the LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR IN AUSTRALIA dvd, just do a search for it on EBAY, its cheap, under a tenner including postage. Its really good..

I posted this informative info on the DVDs on Amazon and some idiot said I was wrong BECAUSE it didnt tie in with the series/episode number on the screen at the start of each episode on the first 3 series dvd sets, I had to tell them they had been superimposed on by the company and they weren't on the original credits when broadcast, the info they superimposed is wrong and worthless.

The Aussie Love Thy Neighbour is pretty good...Not brilliant like the original series, but still funny in parts. Being in Australia I have it, and it only costs around $12 to $15 Australian to buy brand new.

I have the movie on VHS from years ago...I agree its not as good as the series, much like the Please Sir movie, it just didnt work all that well as a feature length film, but wasnt terrible by any means.

As for Jack Smethurst...I have his autograph on a publicity photo from the 1970's as well as Rudolph Walkers from the 1970's too, unfortunately the Walker signature is a dedicated one, but thats okay.

Im trying to get the two women's signature as well as the rest of Eddie and Bill's work mates and Nobbys as well, though i know that theirs are going to be worth a lot amount of money.
