I can't believe the way Eddie walks around his own home ashing his countless cigarettes anywhere and everywhere. I don't think I've ever seen him use an ash tray. He ashes on the couch, the table, the floor, the rug... That house would have been disgusting.

I agree, but that is what it was like in them days. Everyone was "faggin it"

ironically enough, in Episode 3 of Series 3 Eddie comes home from holiday with at least 4 large ashtrays he stole from hotels and pubs, so I guess he did use them! :-)
