Lack of n-word

Just intrigued as to why there is no use of the n-word in this show. It throws in just about every other racial slur and nig-nog is pretty close, arguably just as offensive.

Was it a complete no-no of a phrase even in the early 70's or was it just less prevalent in the UK back then?

Seen as less offensive then. Eddie once said you shouldn't use the word,"coon,".

I think LTN purposely chickened out from the N-word...primarily inkeeping with their long-term belief that the show was intended to mock 'racism' (as opposed to enabling it)
Anyhow, check out this 1976 rarity from (certified genius) Spike Milligan. Sadly it didn't make it past the pilot (although a series *was* filmed) it's the darker (pun-intended) brother of his earlier 'Curry & Chips' sitcom.
'Melting Pot' is just as relevant now (as when it was first aired) with the added bonus of Frank Carson.
