I recall some creepy movie/tv show? w/ Jodie Foster from the seventies where there's a teenage guy living behind the walls in her house??? he might be a magician....very vague memories - anyone know of what I speak?

thx

I think you're mixing up 2 movies (probably because the teenage boy you're referring to is in both of them - Scott Jacoby).

The Jodie Foster movie you're referring to (I think) is "The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane", which came out in 1976. In it, she becmes friends with a teenage magician (played by Scott Jacoby). Martin Sheen is also in this movie.

The other movie (I think) you might be referring to (about the boy who lives behind the walls in a house) is called "Bad Ronald", which came out in 1974. It also stars Scott Jacoby.

Thank you! Thank you! You have cleared up a mystery for me that I have been wondering about for a long time!!!! I didn't realize when I saw it that it was a TV show and in my mind it was a movie. I have been racking my brain trying to discover what this was called and now I know! Can somebody please just clarify if Jodie Foster's (I didn't know that this was her) character was deaf and dumb? This is how I remembered it.

My husband gets the Magazine "Filmfax" every so often and it mentioned it in the January/March 2007 edition regarding the show "Ghost Story". Apparently the original script had a grandmother instead of a grandfather. The story was written by Robert Bloch (author of "Psycho") who was so angry about the change he refused to do any more scripts for the producer, William Castle ("13 Ghosts"). Isn't the IMDB grand!

reply

Yes. In the "Ghost Story" episode "House of Evil", Jodie's character was deaf and dumb. Her grandfather could communicate with her by telepathy. It was a great episode.

Fawn

does any one know what horror film with Karen Black in it had her being dragged down the basement staris by little creatures? All I remember is that she was out of it and came to and they had tied her ankles and were dragging her into the basement. It's driving me crazy trying to figure out which movie it is!

thank you! I was very young, that's all I can remember and it terrified me for years. That and the zumi doll.

Hi Fawn,

The movie you're thinking of was Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. It stars Kim Darby, not Karen Black.

The Jodie Foster Doll House Story,"Trilogy of Terror" (Karen Black gets nasty with the Zuni Voodoo doll), and "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" all seem to get mixed up in people's heads and become a single movie. Wouldn't this be a great opportunity for some ambitious exploitation filmmaker - do a a new one with ALL 3 in a single plot? (I think it's because they all came out around the same time, and most of the fans were 10-15 years old, when stuff gets mixed up in your head anyway)

reply

Throw in Bad Ronald and it'll be complete. When someone mentioned The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane, I thought of Bad Ronald. Got the two mixed up.

Everyone usually reaches for Bad Ronald (1974) when it comes to "teenaged boy living behind the walls of a house", but there's another, lesser-known film that has that plot - Crawlspace (1972). 
