'Impossible crime? Call an impossible star….'

Believe or not I read that article before. I'm such a Banacek phile it's pathetic. I also read that the show was going to be a 1 hour weekly series, but to to the hit of Rotating Sunday night mysteries(Columbo, McMillan and McCloud) they wanted to have another one in the middle of the week. So the Wednesday mysteries were born. So NBC went back to Peppard and asked if he'd do 8 90 minute shows rather 24 60 minutes and we'll pay you the same. George must have been thinking the same thing I was, cause to me that was a no-brainer. Plus he only had a guarantee 2 year contract, so he might have probably walked away anyway. Who knows.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury signifying nothing.

Good, interesting thoughts.

As far as him leaving the series, if the reason he cited elsewhere(impending divorce) is true, and considering your idea of this:

George must have been thinking the same thing I was, cause to me that was a no-brainer.

that would put you into elite company. I can't say I could come up with this!

Today, we'd be looking at 20-21-22 1-hour episodes/season? One could figure a 2-parter could add an episode to a season's count.

But considering this:

I also read that the show was going to be a 1 hour weekly series
When one looks back at the world of TV then, they were able to make 90-minute episodes work. Today? I wouldn't make much of a bet on 90, so your info about it going to 60 would make it palatable.
Older discussion:
This: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068044/board/nest/21107521011 references this: http://therapsheet.blogspot.com/2011/12/nbcs-mystery-movie-turns-40-ba nacek.html?m=1 which says, “it’s a daunting task to come up with eight perfect heists a year. If you could, you wouldn’t be a TV producer, you’d be, well, a master criminal.”

If they felt 8 was a stretch, another 13 would have been very difficult. Now? Groups such as TBBT's (The Big Bang Theory) script staff says they've practically made Wikipedia a member of their group. (The wording made it sound like they could do their jobs without Wikipedia, but it would be very, very difficult.)

(I've not yet used Wikipedia for this, although I won't say I'm above it)
