I like Miss Brahms

She has always been my favorite character. She is loyal to mrs. Slocombe even though that loyalty was only one-way at times. I loved it when Mrs S told Miss B to cut 4 frills off with scissors and she just said "no". Mrs S was just aghast. She was so pretty in earlier seasons too. I hated that they made her a bitter spinster in grace and favour.

Your opinion was right on, about Wendy Richard's personality on "Grace & Favour"; it put me in mind of early AYBS eps, in which Miss Brahms is disgusted with her lot and how she wanted to do something with her life-- wanting "Dallas" & all she was getting was "Coronation Street"! Mrs. Slocumbe would admonish her about her flaunting at men, yet by the time of "Grace & Favour", poor Ms. Brahms was pretty much on the same level as Mrs. Slocumbe, in spite of her being much younger in years. Still a funny situation, but a bit sad , as well.

I'd go so far as to say that Wendy Richard was one of the most beautiful women on television in the early 1970s. I agree it's a shame that she morphed into 'Pauline Fowler' in Eastenders - she went from playing a 'young' dolly bird in 'AYBS' to a frumpy middle aged housewife overnight in 1985!

'Monsters? We're British!'
