A triumph of British character acting

Very sad news about the death of Nicholas Smith as we've now lost all the original cast. However as he ascends to heaven in the Grace Brother's lift (yes it may take a while) he can smile in the knowledge that there's going to be a huge reunion party.

My Dad disliked this series initially (as he did Dad's Army) but the warmth of the characters slowly won him over. It didn't really matter if the script wavered at times because the sheer talent of the cast elevated it.

So true. As an American, when I was initially introduced to the show I was a bit lukewarm about it--didn't quite see what all the fuss was about. But it didn't take long for me to really begin appreciating the cast, and how the sheer force of their personalities shone through what might have been sometimes mediocre material in other hands.

I'm with you on Nicholas Smith--sad to know he's gone, but I hope he joins his castmates for a celebration in that Grace Brothers toy floor (one of my favorite episodes) just in time for the holidays :).

Well in away this death was perfect timing or the rest of the cast - now they're reunited for Christmas.

--Sad timing for his family, and I hope they're as well as can be expected in their loss; but I also hope the knowledge that Mr. Smith brought a lot of laughter to a lot of people helps them to remember him with as many smiles as tears.

Yes, indeed. My sympathy and condolences to his family and friends. What a legacy they all leave- to keep people laughing long after you're gone! I would be so proud.

reply

Well said. I won't add a thing.
