What was Jackie's name in UK version?

Just had a very complicated conversation with my 8-yr-old re: the character is named Jackie Chan, and the actor is named Jackie Chan, but the story is not about the actor's real life. Does anyone know the "Jackie" character's name from the HK version? Any thoughts on why he's "Jackie" in the US version?

In the HK version of Police Story, Jackie Chan's character is named Chan Ka Kui. In the New Line Cinema VHS tape(English dub), Chan Ka Kui is changed to "Jackie Chan"!!!

It's pretty much a tradition in HK films to name the chracter after the actor.
I know this was not the first, or last film to do this.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he is God.

The character is called Jackie Chan much for the same reason the actor Chan Kong Sang is called Jackie Chan. Distributors felt that Anglos ( Americans, British, Scots, Irish and Australians )would be confused by traditional Chinese names. So Chinese actors were given Anglo names for their English language releases. Jackie picked his own name from the years he lived in Australia and the locals nicknamed him Jack.

Many times distributors also believed that the original Chinese names of characters in Hong Kong movies would be confusing, so once again change them to Anglo names. Most of the time they simply give the characters the same name as the actors.

I know the original question was asked a couple of years ago, but in the version I saw "The Cub Tiger From Kwangtung" Jackie's character is named Hsiao Fu (or Hsiao Hu) which may mean "Little Tiger Cub". I don't speak Chinese, the burned-in English subtitles showed "Hsiao Hu (Little Tiger Cub)". Another set of subtitles superimposed on the Chinese and English subtitles showed "Hsiao Fu".
