Was Wonka Ready To Search For A New Kid?

After he kicked out Charlie and Grandpa Joe, was Wonka going to put in a new search for a new kid? He didn't expect Charlie to return the gobstopper.....but once Charlie returned it, Wonka said that he won.

Was he really ready to start over before Charlie did that?

reply

He had his heart set on Charlie all along. He probably would have waited for his evil grandpa to die off and give him another chance.

reply

Wait for Grandpa Joe to die? Ha! His Ompa Lompas were sharpening their daggers right up to the second that Charlie placed the gobstopper on Wonka's desk. Grandpa Joe doesn't know it but he'd never been closer to death.

Considering his age, that's saying something..

Well, he did say to Charlie: "I KNEW you would!!!

Of course he knew. Just as he knew he was going to push that sponging old duffer out of the glass elevator once they'd cleared the town.
