Grandpa Joe: I haven't stood in 20 years.

-I personally don't think he literally lied in bed that long. He probably was just overexagerating in a sarcastic manner.

-Similar to when you don't see someone for like a year, you would say, "Wow! I haven't seen you in like a million years", even though it's not literal.

- he must've been bedridden for 1-2 years at the most, it's not realistic for a person to successfully stand, walk, and dance so quickly after NOT walking for a while.

I agree.

I agree...for someone to stand, dance, make up a song on the fly about finding a golden ticket....could've been bed ridden for no more than a couple years.

reply

No, it's not realistic, it's deliberately exaggerated for a children's audience who doesn't have a good grasp of time.

In the real world, if it were possible for someone to just get up and walk after twenty years, whoever had been busting their back taking care of that person for the last twenty years... would kill them!

reply

He was able to do it because he was a lying stinking workshy bastard.
There was nothing wrong with him. He was always able to walk. That's how he managed to get the chocolate bar for Charlie.

reply

haha I like it...
