Why was Mr. Salt special?

Why was Mr. Salt the only parent of a "bad child" to be punished? The parents of the other "bad children" were just as responsible for their children's immorality.

The better question is 'Why didn't Wonka open the door of the glass elevator while it was in flight and kick Grandpa Joe out'!

If those pen pushers up at city hall don't like it,well, they swivel on this middle digit!

I disagree. Mr. Salt spoiled his child and helped turn her into the brat she was. Basically, he enabled her bratty behaviour.

I think all of the parents probably contributed to their children's unique 'sins' so to speak, but Mr. Salt was the one parent who actually cheated, by hiring his nut factory workers to 'shell' chocolate wrappers by the dozen, in order to ensure his daughter won a Golden Ticket. By contrast, the other bratty kids, along with Charlie, won through their own 'efforts' so to speak, rather than because of any cheating on their respective parents' parts.

Cheated? How is that cheating?
The competition was to find the tickets. He employed people to do so. Was there some rule that said this wasn't allowed?

I agree with HarveyManfredSinJohn, Mr Salt cheated he used people to find the ticket rather than veruca finding it herself

reply

Well the whole thing was rigged anyway Wonka made sure that the ticket ended up at the Salt factory. And there's nothing wrong with hiring people to do something, they got a bonus in return which is more appealing to an adult whilst the ticket would be more appealing to the kid.

The addition of the fake Slugworth character makes the 'competition' null and void. Think about it - he was there when all the ticket winners found their tickets, ergo he knew they were going to get them. Ergo Wonka planted them for them to find. Adding that character for a bit of suspense actually totally unravels the story.

It's ok in the case of Gloop, Violet and Mike TV because he appears AFTER they've found the tickets, while they're being interviewed. But for Violet and Charlie, we see the tickets being found and by magic Wilkinson is there whispering in their ears about swiping gobstoppers.
