charlie wasting the wonka chocolate

Just saw this since I was 5 or something and it disturbed me that such a poor boy would waste and throw away the Wobka chocolate when he got the golden ticket.

Growing up, I had limited and scarce chocolates and candies or sweets which is why I developed a habit and still practice it now, of licking the chocolate or ice cream smudges off wrappers because I feel I'm wasting it. I imagine others, especially a poor boy like Charlie who ate cabbage water daily would treasure the chocolate he ate.

Well he just found out he won a lifetime supply! One bar wasn't going to make a difference.

I don't think a kid in that moment who hardly eats chocolate or good healthy food for that matter would've thrown it away (he must've been starving if you think about it), perhaps that little rich spoiled girl would've because she is sick & tired of chocolates and can get them anytime but not someone like Charlie.

I'm sorry but even as a kid, that scene really disturbed me and took me out of the film.

On a side note, my background and upbringing is also why seeing American kids in films having a food fight was always disturbing to me as well.

I think the scene is supposed to portray Charlies excitement. I wouldn't take it personally.

Neither would I. He wouldn't pass up a good candy bar (or Golden Wonka ticket) when I saw it.:-)

In his short life, he had maybe one real dream, and it came to fruition with the discovery of the golden ticket. I think we can excuse his wasting the candy due to extraordinary excitement.

Besides, wouldn't Charlie be getting a lifetime supply anyway once he had the golden ticket?

reply

I agree, I don't care how excited it was, I wouldn't waste a good chocolate bar lol.

What's really stupid though was waving that ticket in everyone's face. He's very lucky no one grabbed it from him and ran
