Why No DVD Release?

Why no DVD release of both Willard and Ben???

Been waiting YEARS for this. It's ridiculous!

No, you're ridiculous.

I was wondering the same thing. "Willard" is a great movie and so much of it is memorable.

reply

I totally agree. I am beginning to give all hope of EVER seeking this movie on DVD. Same goes for BEN.

I would love to see a DVD release for both films as well. I would like to see extra features too, but I would be willing to settle for just the theatrical trailers as long as both films were on DVD. They are two of my favorite films of all time and I would love to see them get the release they have deserved for years.

A perfect candidate for one of those double-feature DVDs. Maybe one day....

Screw DVD we need a great blu-ray transfer with a restored print. I would love that!

I think we need Blu-Ray AND DVD for both films. It's the least they could do for making us wait so many years.

There have been a lot of things I've heard about why this is not on DVD. As far as I can recall, whoever owns it (it's not Paramount; it's something to do with the Bing Crosby family) has not liked the way it was treated in the past, and therefore has vowed never to allow it to DVD. At least that's the last thing I heard, true or not.

WILLARD is at the very top of my DVD Wish List.

I hadn't heard about the Bing Crosby family connection with this film.

I *do* know that the Crosby family haven't wanted the 1971 made-for-TV movie 'Dr. Cook's Garden' ever released because Bing played a wickedly bad guy in it.

Years ago I had a heckuva time finally scavenging a copy of 'Dr. Cook's Garden' and that was because of the Crosby family death grip on the original.

And that's too bad because it really was a good little film.

What ninnies!

Now if I could only get a copy of Jerry Lewis' 'The Day The Clown Cried' <sigh>

Well, I wish there was a way to contact the Bing Crosby family and talk sense into them. This film is a major cult classic and would be a guaranteed money maker if it was released on DVD or Blu-Ray. It's probably not like they need the money, but still fans should be allowed to purchase a film they've always loved. A company that specializes in horror Blu-Rays like Scream Factory would surely give this a respectable release. I see no reason in the world for them to forbid it. I'm perfectly satisfied with watching my VHS copies of Willard and Ben, but I know they won't last forever so I'd like to have copies on DVD or Blu-Ray, too.

The entire movie can be seen on YouTube. I just watched it today for the first time since '71.
