Any fans out there?

I saw this a few years back after finding a copy at a local video store. What luck! I was treated to one of the finest westerns I have ever seen. William Holden has always been one of my favorite actors and this was one of his finest performances. The photography was excellent although I would love to see this on the big screen or on a nice DVD transfer! I guess all I can do is hope.

Re;
Agree with you about the film and William Holden`s performance. SPOILER:Holden`s monologue after the death of his best friend played by Ryan O`neal is touching and his death scene at the end is one of the most realistic I have ever seen on film. I like the completly masculine "Buddy Tenderness" in the way Holden`s and O`Neal`s friendship is portrayed.Holden and O`Neal became good friends off-screen. Bill Holden was a generous and kind actor.Julie Andrews wife of the film`s director,Blake Edwards who was present during the filming stated that "Although Ryan did not realize it at the time,Bill basically handed the film to him".
I too am keeping my fingers crossed for a DVD release.I have the CD of the wonderful musical soundtrack written by the late Jerry Goldsmith.

Wild Rovers stands as my personal favorite of all Edwards' films. The LaserDisc copy I own of the International version is prized. I fear the quality of the cut sequences will keep it from DVD release.

MGM is usually pretty good about releasing older films onto DVD - with limited extras though. I'm not asking for much, just a bare bones DVD, with a trailer, and that's all. Maybe find Ryan O'Neal and get a commentary!

That's an interesting story Gemini.

Have just seen the film and whilst I admired William Holden's performance, I thought the film was pretty uneven and fairly long-winded.

I did think the sequence of the cowboys breaking in the wild horse in the snow was quite unique and beautiful.

I love this movie, and would love to have a DVD copy also. I do own the CD soundtrack, and treasure it cause it was, and still is, hard to find. I love the horse-breaking sequence in the snow, and it was recently posted on youtube.com by a fan from Germany. Check it out at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mTXvtz8bpA

For those who may have been on sabbatical to the South Pole and do not know it yet, this film has been out on DVD since July 2011. It was released as a "make on demand" and is the full 137 minute version. I believe the transfer very good and I am proud to have it in my collection. At this writing it can be had through Amazon for $18 including shipping. I love this movie also and it is very, very good. Leonard Maltin gives it 3 1/2 stars of a possible 4 so that is an extremely high rating and I agree. This is one of the best westerns of the 1970s and is one of the best westerns ever made in my opinion.

I did snap it up when it first came out, direct from wbshop.com for $10 in one of their many sales. I recommend signing up at wbshop.com for their Warner Archive release newsletters, as you get immediate notification and details for all new release titles.

And I agree they did a marvelous job on remastering this classic in it's original widescreen format, reconstructing the film the way it's director, Blake Edwards, intended.

I tend to agree. Good story, especially the way things pan out in the end. And Holden certainly is one of my faves. Wonder how things would have been if someone else had done the part. For sure it would have amounted to something less.
