My old boss produced this...
I worked for Elliott Kastner at Pinewood Studios in the late 80s - but I only just watched this for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Hopkins was so young-looking (I worked with him too and he's a great guy, very down-to-earth). Anyway, I did think that it was a bit silly in this movie when the Kirkside girl asked him what was going on and instead of just telling her he kept saying "get dressed! There's no time" and stuff like that. He could have spent the same amount of time and words just quickly explaining himself. They do this a lot in many movies - one of the most ludicrous examples was Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds when he came back to the house and Dakota Fanning kept asking what was happening and he just kept saying "there's no time to explain" - this scene was perfectly parodied in one of the Scary Movie sequels (I think) when the dad says to his daughter "It would take too long to explain" and then some random guy crashes against the patio door and yells "Aliens have invaded" and the dad looks at his daughter and says "Huh, that pretty much sums it up." Anyway, Eight Bells Toll was great.
