This is 'England'?

They made a bit of a blunder when 'Sir Anthony Skouras' (Jack Hawkins) says something to the effect of:

"You can't just go around killing people. This is England".

just after 'Philip Calvert' (Anthony Hopkins) throws a body into the sea from the boat, when the story clearly tells us that they are off the coast of Scotland.

I don't think there would be too many Scottish people happy with Scotland being called England.

Actually it's Robert Morley's character that says it, and it would be very typical of a certain kind of Englishman, exemplified by his character, to think of the whole of the British Isles as "England".

"Duck, I says..."

and to a lot of americans and other people, england unfortunately covers the british isles.

reply

It is England that he is working for, wherever he is in the world. I didn't see any faux pas here.

reply

True but then there are not too many happy people in Scotland anyway.
