What a boring, pointless and lifeless movie

A piece of crap. If sleepwalking and acting listless is a great performance then I guess the late Miss Loden hit the mark. Barbara Loden as Wanda looks like Joanne Woodward in Rachel, Rachel. A coincidence no doubt.

I think this is a "slice of life" kind of movie - if the characters are listless, maybe that's because she's working to capture the life is for a lot of folks. So it's not a with a clean or upbeat ending; that's probably true-to-life.

I understand the point that other make about it being gritty and true to life, to a point.

It shows people existing in a bleak circumstances and without hope, goals, or sense of responsibility. Society's losers.

But as far as feeling it is a masterpiece, it is too low budget, below a B film, in my opinion. And frankly, quite boring.

Boring lives perhaps, don't make great films. And if they do, it's because the filmmaker was able to bring it to life.

there's no accounting for taste - I found it brilliant and fresh

^I too loved the movie and wonder why it's taken me 61 years to see it! I saw it twice this past weekend and loved it. My only bugbear was lack of subtitles. I probably didn't get a 1/12th of the dialogue due to bad sound, mumbling, whatever.

Wanda is a boring, pointless, and lifeless character. She's a person who is lost in the world and someone who cannot assimilate for whatever reasons (it's not ever really made clear). So yeah, it is a mundane film in terms of plot progression, but it's still really beautiful in many ways. Definitely a quiet film though.

Cinema verite. Depressing lives. No music. Bleak landscapes.

I'm not a big fan of the movie either but I think it's because it portrays a piece of crap person who sleepwalks through her life and is willing to hurt others if her latest 'pal' deems it necessary.

Ms. Loden's movie and performance are spot on but this movie is just not my cup of tea. I find it hard to sympathize with Wanda because I feel she brings on herself all the problems she encounters along the way.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

The funny thing is how the two ladies (I forget their names) who talked the movie up were saying how empowering this movie was and how Wanda just couldn't find something she was good at but realized there were things she wasn't good at.

No, Wanda was lazy trailer trash & the movie was weak
