Underarm hair error

During Walkabout's central swimming scene, there are two shots in which The Girl's underarms can be seen to be quite clean-shaven: the shot in the middle of the scene in which she stands up in a shallow part of the pool and pushes her hair back, and the shot at the end of the scene in which she's putting her blouse on.

Of course this makes virtually no sense, since there's almost no imaginable reason she'd have brought a razor with her on the outing that ended with her and her brother getting lost; nor is it likely she'd have bothered using such a razor, if she'd had it, while wandering around in the Outback.

If she had access to a razor though it is not inconceivable that she would have used it while freshening up, if it was part of her daily routine, and the Aborigine looked like he had access to a Gillette Mach 3...

The irony of course is that if it were made today it wouldn't just be her armpits that are shaven.

Unfortunately, many movies have this same error. It's as though movie makers don't think we know women also have underarm hair. The second commenter is also correct. If the movie was made today there wouldn't be a pubic hair in sight, not even on the native boy. As far as his facial hair, it is not uncommon for a 16yo boy not to have any at that age.

I've never known any woman's armpit to suddenly turn in to the Amazon rainforest after just a handful of days. On top of that she's only about 16, you only see her armpits from half a mile away and there is another swathe of bushy pubes that have clearly never been shaved and that is giving you an unnecessary contrast.

Look at her legs too, do they look like a shag pile rug? She's in her mid teens for heaven's sake, she's not gonna be the embodiment of Robin Williams' forearm...

Even a girl in her mid teens would be likely, after a few days of not shaving, to have a shadow of underarm hair stubble that'd be visible from a substantial distance.

As for leg hair, that's different. Most women's leg hair is sparse enough that, even when fully grown out, it's essentially invisible from more than a few feet away.

To be honest, I was way too distracted by her PUBIC hair to notice her lack of underarm hair.

I think it is to easy though sometimes to focus on minutea in movies. It's can be like not seeing the forest for the moss growing on a particular tree.

bit of a daft point, it's possible that she had a razor or didn't have a lot of visible underarm hair - since body hair distribution can vary.
