A very rare film to see or even own.
This Richard Burton crime film is pure class. If anything, it is a character study of someone that has obviously been moulded on one of the Kray brothers. It is also one of the few 70s british gangster films that stands up even now as not having dated that much. Obviously it has aged but the general tone and feel is still very apparent in todays gangster movies or dramas shown on TV about the genre etc. Richard Burton once again pulls out another great performance. As a 35 year old, I really only showed an interest or wanted to know about the older films that Burton did. The films I remember him doing as an older guy. Films such as - The Medusa Touch or The Wild Geese.. etc. So this is a film that is very rarely shown on TV or probably even owned, if you're one of the few that are lucky enough to own a copy of the movie. I was glad one night on late night TV to catch it. It is unfortunate for those who have never seen it, because it's definitely one of the best British films of the 70s. Hopefully one day we may get to all see it on DVD.
