Movie running time - DVD cut or uncut

Hi there!

I'm hoping someone can assist me on this one. I've just bought the spanish releases of several Jean Rollin's movies but I'm unsure of the uncut status of the DVD's. All the nudity and gore seem to be there but I've searched the net and it got even more confusing for it seems that almost all releases have different running times. I guess that for some of them the indicated time may not be accurate...

So, if anyone possesses the DVD's I'd like to have your comparisons on the running time - the following are in the PAL system so it should be 4% shorter than the NTSC system.

My DVD's have the following duration:

«Le Viol du Vampire» - 90 min 46 s

«La Vampire Nue» - 81 min 18 s

«Frisson des Vampires» - 91 min 39 s

«Réquiem pour un Vampire» - 86 min 50 s (well, actually it reads 88 minutes, but the print seems to be the one from Redemption films - and the Redemption annoucement lasts for 1 min 10 s)

«Fascination» - 78 min 26 s

«La Morte Vivante» - 86 min 09 s

Some of these are shorter but others are longer than releases that are supposed to be uncut versions. If anyone is certain about this topic I'd appreciate very much their assistance.

Thanks!

The problem is that no version of Fascination is complete - they all have different bits missing. Hopfully the Encore release remedies this. The Redemption version of Requiem is missing the pubic rubber bat shot; I'm not sure what else.

Hi,

I just saw the spanish DVD again and, despite the Redemption introduction at the beginning, it seems to be complete. The rape sequence is rather gruesome and ends with the bat in the girl's pubic area. Plus, the bondage sequence also seems to be complete.

Hum... That's almost 3 minutes shorter than the spanih DVD. But so is the Encore Entertainment release which is supposed to be the best release. My guess is that the spanish DVD has not the PAL speed-up...

As for the 95 minute version, probably that's just a IMDB non-sense. Or maybe, there was some version in the 70's with hardcore inserts. That happened a lot, though not in 71, just later as a reaction to the "Deep Throat" craze.

the redemtion version in the uk was cut by the bbfc by over 6 mins for dvd relese when given to the bbfc for relese it had a run time of 83 mins 4 seconds but they cut it by 6 mins 55 seconds

I just finished watching the Redemption widescreen version from Image Ent. And it seems very complete. Bat/Pube scene,Rape, whipping, etc. IMDB says 95min. Well,I keep my DVD player in "countdown" mode. And it started at 94+min. The back of the Image Ent. box says 88min. But,it's definitely longer than that. So,it seems to me a full and complete version. If anyone knows anything else about a longer vers. than 94+min ed. Then please let me,and others know. Other than that. The Image Ent. ed. is the one to get. Even though it says 88min on the back,it's actually longer. P.S. I didn't think that it was a very good movie. Even for the Genre and year made.

The title was "Requiem For a Vampire". I rented it at my local Hollywood Video store here in the U.S. Looking on the back of the box,and on the DVD itself. It says that it's issued by Image Entertainment. Films in the U.K. usually go through some kind of censorship. That could make the difference between yours and mine? Is there a version out there that everyone is looking for? To your question,The vid. box did have the word Redemption on the cover,on the top of the box. But, it's issued by I.E. the transfer looked good. Sound too. But it did have more scenes than other vers. Other posters here complained about missing scenes and incomplete vers. And I saw the scenes that they say are missing in the vers.that they watched. Which one is "The One"? A few sites to check out. dvdbeaver.com they compare different vers. of the same movie for frame rates, aspect, sound, quality of transfer to DVD,etc. The site is a pretty hardcore DVD site. Lots of tech info. Another is blueunderground.com and xploitedcinema.com both essential sites for horror and cult fans. cultfilmz.com and rareflix.com are other sites too. So go exploring! Also surfthechannel.com and fearnet.com have a lot of movies to watch. Many current ones too. Before I forget, the default lang. was French w/subs.

its the uncut US print then on a british lable. ive noticed brit films cut here and uncut in the usa theres also a difrence with ntsc and pal which is a few mins.
ours is heavely censored here but i.e and redemption can do it uncut in the US

i like dvd beaver with the comparisons
the most complete version everyones after which sounds like the version from I.E redemption ( not the brit 18cert)

"Even for the Genre and year made"

Please. Don't ever say "for the year made" or "for the type of movie it is".

Every movie should be judged on its own merit. If you start talking about the year or whatever it's shifting the goalposts.

I give this movie a 10 as I think it's a brilliant movie. I've watched it about four times as it seems to get better every time. I didn't really like the rape scene that much. I think it has a place in some movie, but I'm not sure if this was the right movie for it and it may have turned some people off.

You're entitled to your opinion. We all have different tastes and sometimes it's hard to see why we love/hate/like/dislike a movie. But please, none of this "for its time" bullcrap.

You're better off going with the cut version on this film. Though it cuts the plot necessary whipping scene, it also cuts out the trashy dungeon scenes that the producers forced on the film and which Rollin did not direct. I'm going to put my blu-ray into an editor and cut the dungeon scenes out, they ruin the otherwise excellent film.
