Cool! Very, Very Cool!!

My wife said "Fast And Furious" ripoff. I said, "Hey!! this movie taught "Fast and Furious" all they know!! This is Original Cult Classic!! Back the day, (late 60's, early 70's) "Easy Rider", "Billy Jack" "Vanishing Point"; they were just like "Bullitt" (1968) you felt cool just watching them. "I'm a cool dude. I'll get Jean's, puffy shirt(white) sunglasses, Boots...Yeah!! Yeah!! I Will Be Cool! You grew mutton chops (Joe Nameth had them..) you were bad and cool!! Chicks had to deal with it. When I got back from Vietnam (end of 68) I got stirrup boots, squared off toe they had a ring on the side (down low) they were so bad!! I was so cool!! Wore em out!! Reminds me of transit ride after Rolling Stones Steel Wheels concert, kid across from us (wide eyes wide open) "Dad you never told me!!!" I said, "Son you missed it all. ... Three Dog Night ....You missed it all."
Ha Ha I was there for "Vanishing Point" in the theatre, John

PS I have something to add. Vanishing Point: very little dialogue or plot (didn't need it.) Lots of Flashbacks, we did it like that in 60's and early 70's (see French film "When a Man Loves a Woman"). Oh My God!! We ate it up!! Saw that one in boondocks I Corps (up north..) South Vietnam. NOT ONE HIT ON SOUNDTRACK OF "Vanishing Point". I know, I played the Hits! Like Cleavon Little, blind Disc Jockey. I was not blind but I could get down "Yeow! Hit me White Boy!! That's my James Brown Ha Ha Wicked Pickett-Wilson Pickett "Mustang Sally" ...... Gotta go. Finish film. Love this movie!!! John

No Hits?!? Oops!!! I take that back. Just heard "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain. I Swear To God; how do I remember this stuff?!? My mind should have been gone long ago.Last night I thought of Lou Cates, sales guy in Tucson when I got back from Vietnam. That's why I wrote memoirs, "Tight & Bright" don't want this stuff to get away. Disappear. Be forgotten. John

Is this THE GREATEST FILM OF ALL TIME?!? My wife and I are fighting it out now. You know her "GREATEST"?? "Robin Hood Prince of Thieves", Kevin Costner Ha Ha The guy can't even do accent!! For crying out loud. Wimpy. She hates Hippies and 'naked girl' in Vanishing Point. Keeps asking "what's the naked girl all about??" S-E-X I said. Get it?!? She can't stand Cleavon Little (Blind Disc Jockey) wants to blow him up. Some people never understand High Art..How did we ever connect?!? I love Her-but-she's brainless.

Hey John,
I think you're a few years older than me (I'm 56) but wow can I relate. All those movies from the 70's really bring me back
Ripping through the dry lake beds in Nevada.. Been there done that.
My girl hasn't seen VP yet but it sounds like your girl is special to you because your taste in movies are opposite.
Take care,
Mark

People forget this was one of the landmark films of counterculture. Kowalski was standing up to authority. People don't realize all they had on him was minor traffic offenses but the big offense was standing up to authority. The filmmaker treated the black characters with respect but super soul dealt with bigoted rednecks. I happened to watch Birdman earlier tonight and wanted to throw things at the TV. A pretentious POS! The Vanishing Point isn't pretentious it was an expression of the times. I think it's time for a revival of counterculture but I'm not sure we'll ever see films like The Vanishing Point ever again.

'A pretentious POS', unfortunately (!) starring Michael Keaton and Naomi Watts (used to be a girl that you can't get enough of, just showing up on screen..:))

Edit: ^^ Or, perhaps, it's just me gettin' old, hehe. err, regarding Watts, ofc.

How can something made 30 years before the first crappy Fast & Furious be a rip off?

Complete ignorance.
