Vampire Circus and Countess Blood same sets

VAMPIRE CIRCUS and COUNTESS BLOOD are among defunct Hammer Films'best gothic horror films of the early 1970s. Each horror movie takes place in eastern Austria, but about 130 years apart in different time periods. But you'll notice that both films used the same faux post-medieval town sets. And similar scenes were filmed on the same sets. A circus rolls into town in both movies and on both sets. Hammer Films was of course, shrewd on reusing studio assets. It goes a little too far however, in COUNTESS BLOOD, as the handsome young lieutenant wears the same, effete-looking uniform throughout the whole movie, except the very end.

I enjoyed the old gothic horror movies. Hammer Films was very good at it. A historical European setting, especially quaint, backwards-like, post-medieval central and eastern European settings provided an especially atmospheric and moody backdrop. Gothic or historical horror films are more enjoyable to watch than horror films set in modern times.
