Synapse To Release Twins Of Evil, Vampire Circus, Hands Of The Ripper

Found this on Fangoria:

Fans of Hammer Films’ 1970s outings will rejoice that DVD outfit Synapse Films has acquired the rights to four titles from the library of the classic British horror studio. Among them are three features that have never previously been available on optical disc in the U.S.

Synapse’s Don May Jr. gave us the scoop that they’ve picked up Robert Young’s VAMPIRE CIRCUS, John Hough’s TWINS OF EVIL and Peter Sasdy’s HANDS OF THE RIPPER, along with the classic 13-episode TV series HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR. “We have new high-definition transfers of all three features,” May tells Fango. “Supplement producer Daniel Griffith is working with us on extras, including—so far—interviews with filmmaker and Hammer fan Joe Dante and FLESH AND BLOOD: THE HAMMER HERITAGE OF HORROR writer/director Ted Newsom. Other possible interviews and extras are in the works, including theatrical trailers and TV spots. It’s very possible we will be putting out the three features on Blu-ray as well. If we do, we’ll announce both the DVD and Blu-ray releases at the same time. All 13 episodes of HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR will be released in a DVD boxed set. The plan is to have these available in third quarter 2010.” Keep your eyes here for details as they become available.

Will that new set of the HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR tv series have bonus material not found on the previous four disc set released by A&E Home Video?

A couple of other items of interest: Severin has plans for deluxe new Region 1 editions of the Amicus anthology THE HOUSE THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, along with HORROR EXPRESS.

OK it's mid-August - Do we have a release date yet on these? 4th quarter 2010 was mentioned...anything change?

Well it's certainly nice to hear that VC is FINALLY getting an R1 release that's been long overdue, but...

Am I wrong or is the only way to get this release require purchasing it in this bizarre Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack? Every site I've looked at (including Amazon and DVDpricesearch) seem to indicate as such.

If so, it's a dealbreaker for me. Once again, thank god for Netflix. Who needs a dvd case?

It's two discs in one case. I agree though I will never watch the DVD.

Suppose I have more than one TV and only one Blu-Ray player and want to watch the movie in another room, or I want to take the movie to a friend's house for a movie night and he doesn't own a Blu-Ray player? The DVD-Blu-Ray combo is a step up from having to pay an exorbitant price for an out-of-print VHS copy.

Let's take a vote: Who wants to stay and die?

Here's full details for the special features on the set and also a cool poster graphic for THE BLOODIEST SHOW ON EARTH, the new documentary featured on the disc: http://bit.ly/haXhwk

Sweet - This is on my Christmas list so I got to wait a few days. Twins of Evil is on Netflix Watch Now! I hope Hands of the Ripper and that get the same treatment next year from Synapse. Damn, I hope they can get more Hammer titles!
