Some smiles and a few laughs...

As an ardent follower of British comedy genre in general, and Frankie Howerd in particular, I found this film as a bit of a let-down, despite its nice costumes, music, and (simulated) tapestry works...

Frankie just seemed a little bored with the whole proceedings, and most of the smiles and laughs came from his supporting cast.

I particularly liked Hugh Paddick as the campiest Robin Hood ever created, and Roy Hudd as Nick the Pick, playing the Royal Locksmith, who was so inept that he couldn't even open his own wooden case!

There were other good names in it too, and they all contributed to make it funny in parts, but not really hilarious, as was the case in 'Up Pompeii". Especially the TV series.

However, my favourite running gag, was the suit of armour that fell over into the main hall, every time the door to the castle opened up beside it. (You never actually see anyone setting it back upright, but it's always ready to fall over again, right on cue.) HA HA...Classic!

I am glad to have this flick in my Frankie Howerd collection of DVDs, but it will never be a favourite, I regret.

^-^
