Were the boys surnames for real they sounded made up they were very strange.What about Jones,smith and brown.......

Some of the names definitely sounded made up - at least it's safe to say they can't be very common. I thought maybe the writer took a potshot at upper-class family names which apparently are funny sometimes; I've seen similar examples in other films and novels.

Btw, I was wondering why they made a point of the teacher not 'belonging' at the school. It was almost as if to imply that someone with a public school background might have been able to hold his own against the boys? Or would an old 'Chantreanite' (or whatever they called it) have been more comfortable with coming to an arrangement with them - - -

The roll call at the end I took to mean that none of them were expelled, let alone punished for what they did. Wittering was framed post mortem (the suicide note), and everything was hushed up.
That's the way it's done here, since 1678...
