I watched carefully, and it looked like Richard Crenna really was speaking French. There was another familiar American face in the film, but I couldn't find his name in the credits. At least I think he was American. The tall guy with receding hair line. At one point Delon was sort of facing off with him.
shareWow. I thought the opposite. It seemed that he moved his lips to French then was dubbed. I don't think it was his voice at all. I recognize his voice anywhere and I'm quite sure that wasn't his.
Perhaps, he lipped the words during production, then in post he redid it all and then dubbed it in.
Who knows. Its still a great "flic" none the less.

i'm not sure about his dubbing or not dubbing but i was suprised to see him in a french film and he was very good. his scenes of his "getting ready" on the train were gold.
shareI'm impressed.Sure looks like he's speaking french.Anyway,Simon was too cool.He had all the answers.To bad no one else could handle the pressure.He knew all along that his woman was Coleman's lover.He seemed to want it that way.He used everyone to his advantage.Had that old school mind set.Do your job,keep your mouth shut and everybody wins.Crenna did a great job. Seeing him and Michael Conrad was a shock but they seemed so comfortable in their roles,I was able to watch the movie without paying too much attention to them. I did however watch it several times after that.Trying to see if they were dubbed,but it doesn't matter,I enjoyed the movie.

The same way that German actor Gert Frobe spoke English in Goldfinger and was dubbed. Sometimes the words are right but the accents aren't.
I agree, it really looks like Crenna was rocking le francais. My theory is that he was still dubbed, but actually spoke his lines in French during filming. Weird to see Crenna in this film...didn't really fit the atmosphere, in my humble opinion.

It definitely was not Richard Crenna and Micheal Conrad speaking. I know their voices and if u watched real close, especially with Conrad, you can see that they were dubbed

Richard Crenna's mother was called Edith Pollette. Now his bio says both his parents were Italian but her name really sounds French. Maybe she was French of Italian descent as a lot of them emigrated to France (most of the Italian families in my town came from the same village in Calabria). It's the only think I can think of for him to have such perfect French (it is his voice, I'm sure of it). Either that or he worked months to sound good while reading phonetically, but I don't see that happening, he must have spoken French before the production. Even a classically educated American who learned French in college doesn't speak that well unless he lived in France a while.
