Did he really just want to kill the bank robber

It seemed to me he just wanted to kill the guy does anyone agree. I also felt he used the girlfriend to get to him.

The man who was shot was under close guard in the hospital and was a liability for his accomplices, as he could give up their identity or details on their next heist, so they killed him to keep him silent.

I think the OP is asking if Coleman wanted to kill Simon at the end, and allowed him to be out in the street in order to give him a chance to go for his gun. It appears from their final conversation in the club that Coleman had all he needed to make his arrest there, where Simon could have been taken by surprise.

I think it's ambiguous. Coleman's partner clearly wondered whether he shot too fast, and he might have thought he was doing Simon a favor. He wouldn't have lasted long in prison after stealing drugs from the mob.

If the question is about Simon killing his partner in the beginning, it seems more clear that he preferred to get him out of the hospital, and then went to his back-up plan when the nurse at the desk made clear the patient wasn't in transportable condition.
