Spoiler- how did they link

I'm not quite sure how they linked the dead guy to the guy who ended up spilling the beans? Also do you think he got granted immunity for snitching or did they rough him up and send him arse to prison?

GREAT movie!

The dead guy's fingerprints matched a police file on someone called Mark Albouis. I assumed that Louis Costa, the guy they may (or may not) have got to talk, was a known criminal associate of Albouis.

It's not clear from the film if it was Costa who snitched or Cathy, the woman Simon and Edouard shared as a lover.

Since Delon just let her go in the end, one would assume it was her that snitched and got some kind of deal in return (presumably, he didn't know she'd killed the wounded guy as letting a murderess walk free would probably be a bit too much). A strangely incomplete, elliptical feeling movie as a whole, too - Delon is only shown in fits and starts, going about his business, even though the movie's title posits him as the central figure. And even the train job, that takes up a great deal of screentime, isn't followed up and is sort of pointless, left hanging in the air - instead, the fuzz moves in and that's that. Wonder what to make of it. Certainly liked the melancholy, aloof vibes of the film. The laconic coolness - but then Melville was always one to let the action speak for the characters.

Hi Franz,
Yes it seems more likely that it was the woman who snitched.

Gotta agree. I found it disappointing although it began well. Delon was watchable, as always, but not much else recommended itself to me from the film.
