Alternate Ending ???

I happen to own the 2000 Tin Box release DVD but the first time I caught (and taped) this movie was when it appeared in the mid-'80s on Channel 6 in South Florida. While the DVD filled in a few holes (the TV version ommited that the Mechanic and the Girl got "friendly" in the hotel room for one), I could've sworn that the TV version had a different ending. The ending I "think" I remember the TV version showing the '55 racing an old 30's era hot rod which was cool because of the symbolism. (The GTO was the "new" car racing the "old" '55 - but back in the day, the '55 would have been the "new" car when racing the rod) The DVD version of course shows the '55 racing a new El Camino. Does anyone else remember this version? I can't find that VHS now- It's been twenty years and many moves ago.
