What do You think are the best Car films

what do you guys think. I am trying to check out some of the best car films like

two lane blacktop
gone in 60 seconds
american graffiti
vanishing point
duel
bullit
mad max
grindhouse has a very good car scene

please give me some feedback on some good car films

reply

Two Lane Blacktop is an excellent movie. Although not a car movie per se, it has a great chase scene in it-The Seven-Ups with Roy Scheider. Hot Rod, filmed in 1979 has loads of hot rods and drag strip action.

reply

Two-Lane Blacktop is a masterpiece (a word I don't use lightly) and by far my favorite car film...
But the original Vanishing Point and Electra Glide in Blue are pretty great too.

"I'll sue you in England!"- Harlan Ellison.

reply

Gee how could I have forgotten this one!? Hot Rods to Hell, filmed in 1967, about hot rodders terrorizing a family on a road trip. Antagonists drive a hopped up Corvette with what appears to be a straight-axle front end. Dana Andrews is the father, Jeanne Crain is the overly hysterical mom. Watch for Bullitt hitman Paul Genge as the highway patrol officer too. Not an academy award film by any means the cars in this flick are pretty cool.

2 Lane
Dirty Mary Crazy Larry
American Graffitti
Christine
Maximum Overdrive (hehe)

The cars in Dazed & Confused help make it a great movie.

*+* Me? I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood. *+*

Christine
American Graffitti
Duel (Amazingly great)
Two Lane Black top
Smokey and the Bandit (C'mon you know it kicks A$$)
White Lightning (Not entirely car movie but the car is sweet...for a FORD)
Vanishing Point

Anything else with American Muscle.

reply

American muscle? What about Australian muscle?

Mad Max (the Australian version, not the horribly-dubbed American version) and the Road Warrior both feature several Australian muscle cars:

In fact I own 2 that I imported from Australia to Virginia:
74 Ford Falcon XB GT Coupes

Here’s my list of movies:
Two Lane Blacktop
The Road Warrior
Mad Max
Vanishing Point (the original)
Vanishing Point (the remake) I know I’ll get bashed for this one. I will say that it’s not as good as the original, but I still like it.

Duel
Gone in Sixty Seconds (the remake with Nicolas Cage, not the original)
Bullitt
Running Scared (with Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines) the car chase on the “L”
Moonrunners (not the best, but still fun to watch)
The Blues Brothers "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it."

Capricorn One, okay I know it’s not really a car film, but the stunt flying is the best I’ve ever seen in a movie; it puts that CGI crap to shame.

Cars, contrary to most CGI movies, this one was really good, it also had "Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers” in it. (That’s Tom and Ray Magliozzi for those who don’t know)

nice cars per se but the paintjobs, jeez. That's the opposite direction from mad max.

uh... that's the way the Falcons looked when they were new from the factory, including the Black Interceptor from Mad Max before it was modified to look the way it did in the movie. The Mad Max Falcon was originally white with black trim, the same style as the Falcons in those pictures.

cannonball anyone?

reply

Duel is right up there!

The Lively Set is one of my favs...Pamela Tiffin looks hawt in it.

Another good one is Hotrods to Hell...a 50s morality movie that is hillarious.

Nice *beep* cars. I went the other way with that film and got really into the Kawasaki KZ1000s and Z900s..

reply

Now, that is sure some mighty impressive pair of muscle cars from down under, mate!
I look up to you.
I recall a friend who had an American Ford Falcon, 1963, v8, '4 on the floor', convertible. My mom had 2 of the v6 American Falcons, too, but they were tame family cars, in comparison. (My dad had a 1949 MG TC.)
The most remarkable car I've ever ridden in was a 1958 MGA Sprint fitted with a Buick Skylark 6-cylinder engine. It put many v-8's to shame.
(I'm currently enjoying a stock 2005 6 cylinder Ford Mustang. I thought that it wouldn't be much to enjoy, but it has exceeded my expectations.)
But, when it comes to movies, I'll have to say:

Two Lane Blacktop
Bullitt
Ronin
Freebie & The Bean
The Seven Ups
The French Connection
Mad Max
Road Warrior
Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill!

No doubt, there are many others, such as what others have listed here, but that will be my list for now.

(As a footnote, I'd like to add 'Taste Of Cherry' by Abbas Kiarostami. Although it is not a hotrod, special effects, car-chase movie, most all of it takes place in the protagonist's Range Rover.)

"Gone in Sixty Seconds (the remake with Nicolas Cage, not the original)"
- and still u like to use the words... contrary to CGI !!
The remake is all *beep* it can be... although it tries to push through with throwing in Angelina Jolie, but falls miserably.

Your Falcons are awesome !!!

reply

'The California Kid' is good because it stars a 1934 Ford, Martin Sheen, Vic Morrow and Nick Nolte.
