For one of the (supposedly) most controversial movies ever, this is pretty tame (which is good). What was all the fuss about? The dead animals?

Other than word of mouth from IMDB, where did you see/read about El Topo being 'the most controversial' films ever made? Just curious.

It was a staple of the Midnight Movies phenomena of the 1970s, along with films like Eraserhead, Pink Flamingos, etc. Was a big hit within the pot smoking crowd, being the trippy film that it is, no suprise there =)

But yeah, I've never read or seen anything in regards to El Topo being 'the most controversial film ever made'.....go figure /shrug

Well that's pretty much the only thing I have heard about it, but yeah it was mostly on-line so it might have been a way to get people curious to see it.
