Though Jimmy Sangster misremembered this as a recycling of his script for Taste of Fear aka Scream of Fear, it's actually a rewrite of Nightmare (1964).

Sounds a LOT like the description of "Scream of Fear."

As a fan of Sangster's work, I found this a mildly enjoyable film, but both Nightmare (1964) and Scream of Fear (1961) are better films in my opinion. In fact, I consider Scream of Fear his best work and Hammer's best psychological thriller from the 60's. Watch it if you haven't already.
