A fan of the actors, but...

I just finished watching this film on Netflix streaming and found it to be dreadful. And I love Roddy McDowall, Ava Gardner, Ian McShane, & the lovely Stephanie Beacham. Perhaps the movie was decent when it came out, but it's aged terribly? I don't think anyone would disagree that it's not the greatest film, but it's the worst one I've seen in quite awhile.

PS--It's listed as 'Tan Lim' on Netflix, just FYI.

the story itself is actually pretty interesting... based on the legend of tam-lin in scotland (see wikipedia) but the production quality of the dvd is just terrible. and R McDowell directing didn't help.

did you catch Joanna Lumley (ab-fab) in the credits?

I actually feel the opposite. I feel the direction, the visuals etc., except for that god-awful stills montage, was decent. It was the story I found to be lifeless, and rather nonsensical. I had trouble staying interested, though I did finish it. I found next to nothing to be truly "supernatural" about the story whatsoever. The older woman came off as a sadistic, psycho rich lady, not anything remotely resembling a "witch" or "faerie queen". And the good preacher's daughter, VERY randomly kissing (and apparently screwing, out in the open, in broad daylight) a creepy complete stranger, getting knocked up, and that leading to "love" between the two, felt forced and a bit confusing.

Needless to say, while I watched it because I was curious to see a film directed by an actor I adore (McDowall), I didn't find the story of the film to be entertaining in the slightest, personally.

Dreadful? Well you opinion is certainly dreadful, but the film? No.

Welcome to opinions. People having differing ones from your own, doesn't make them "terrible".
