Help with the ending...possible *SPOILERS*

I recently bought a copy of this via ebay, transferred to DVD from video and including Roddy McDowall's intro. Unfortunately at just over 2 hours in the film abruptly finished....Ava Gardner and henchman have caught Ian McShane who lies prone in the arms of Stephanie Beacham...car headlights sweep away and the camera cuts back to the distressed couple...then nothing ! If anyone could provide brief details of what happens up to the end of the film I'd be hugely grateful...

Andy -- did you purchase the DVD from eBay, or a VHS tape and transfer it to DVD yourself?

If the latter, make another DVD at a slower speed. The ending is in the synopses from the main page.

Hello Herb

Thanks for the reply. I bought it on DVD from ebay, although it had been copied from the US VHS with the intro by Roddy McDowell. Since then I've managed to pick up one of the original VHS vidoes from the States and now know what happens at the end !

Cheers

This is a guess, the drug, that Ian McShane had drunk was supposed to kill him, but did not. Ava and her henchman did not want to get their hands' dirty, left him alone with Stephanie Beacham.

In the Scottish folklore poem Tam Lin, Tam was almost transformed by the fairy witch into a huge nasty looking snake because he longer love her but he love mortal Janet.Janet's love kept him becoming an immortal sea serpent on Halloween's Night in the cold pouring rain, she was not willingly to let him go held on to him tight and end of the night, he was completely mortal free from the fairy witch.

The impression that I got was that Tom was supposed to drive the car while drugged in the hopes that he would crash and kill himself. At least, that's how Mickey's two previous lovers died. When they find Tom bruised and scratched, but otherwise alive and safe in the arms of the Vicar's daughter, Mickey's new man-of-the-hour says, 'It didn't work', and they all get in their cars and leave. So i'm thinking they were hoping he would die in a car crash, drown in the swamp, or otherwise die of exposure in the forest.
