Wow these older film boards are not moving

Wow these older film board are not moving, its like a time Cap. I say something and in 5 years someone will reply. Anyway when you get here, you not the only fan of the movie. As the reviews show.

reply

It's good to know I'm not the only fan.

This movie is one I like to show to younger folk. Even with venues like TCM there just isn't enough exposure for older films that still have timeless entertainment value. This has it in spades...cracks me up everytime. Garner and Elam make a great duo.

Just bought the DVD today for $9.99. It's a fun film. I actually like it better than "Support Your Local Sheriff" but it may be partly because I prefer Suzanne Pleshette to Joan Hackett.

reply

The SIDEWINDER??????? ;)

reply

Great movie, just saw it on TCM. Garner rocks. He could play Maverick forever

reply

no it's: THE SAAAAAHHHDWINDERRRRRRR???? lol

swifty morgan is bald as an eggggg...

an egg?

an egggg

lol i love that

i give this movie a 10 out of 10....i was born in 1979....watched this as a kid lots of times...loved it then....and it is a timeless comedy...it's always funny..and james garner is so cool in it....a great movie...everyone and anyone should see it

"spin her!" lol and the music everytime and the old guy runnin out and downin the whiskey....so cool

and the way garner stands there while it's spinnin...the expression on his face

oh another one just came to mind:

"no i'm slow....but you're the slowest" lol

classic theme as well i can hear it right now...wish the score was released

reply

Glad to see there are other 'Gunfighter' fans out there, and that this film has not been forgotten.

I'm a big James Garner fan and like s007davis, I also prefer this to 'Support Your Local Sherrif' mainly due to the presence of the lovely Suzanne Pleshette.

reply

wait a minute, wait a minute.. "support your local sheriff"?, you mean this is a sequal? i just got past this a few months ago, i had no idea it was a sequal! wonder why they do that, you know, show a sequal but not the first one along with it.

looking out the city,
the weather is really sh*tty,
rain and snow,
blazzing over the lamp posts,
reception long gone away,
and all i got is this window pane,
down the store, little activity going on,
long time since anybody was home,
looking within the dark walls.

reply

you mean this is a sequal

It's not a sequel...it's a tepid follow up that uses many of the same actors but in different roles.

reply

Well, I like this movie a lot, too. I saw it a few years ago on TCM. I'm a sucker for westerns, and it helped that it was just generally a very cute movie, something that generally doesn't interest me.

reply

The Western Channel is going to be showing it tonight. It's been a long time since I've seen it - looking forward to it.

Is nobody going to say that Garner was perfect for both movies. A light, laid back, entertaining fun guy to watch in these movies. HIs smooth, not serious, but not silly attitude is just perfect. And he looked like a sheriff or gunfighter too.

reply

Encore showed both SYLS and SYLG. I DVR'ed them both and showed them to my kids, 8 and 10, and they LOVE them. It is hard to find movies anymore that are completely clean and fun for the whole family. I prefer SYLS but both are classics.

5 years later here I am. See you in 2013, presky.

Howdy from the future.

Next, 2018.

reply

2015 here. Thought I'd pop in and mention I'm about to stream this on Netflix, which wasn't possible when this board began.

reply

2016. Watching it on Blu-ray.

reply

Well a limited number of older films are still popular among audiences of all ages, but only a limited number. Some are forgotten in just a couple of years. Support Your Local Gunfigher was decent, but outside of fans of the actors and its occasional appearances on cable there isn't much to set it apart or make people remember it.

reply

Well, except for those movies considered classics I'm not surprised. I have the habit of visiting and posting on boards of movies I have just seen and there are movies only 5 years old that have no activity at all. So for this movie that I had never heard about before watching it almost by coincidence I'm certainly not surprised that the message board isn't exactly busy.

reply

Its not like theres much to say about this flick that aint been said in the last 40 years.

As for the movie itself: I liked it, but its vastly inferior to the first one.

reply

I'll be showing this to my movie group of fellow seniors Sunday night as sort of a prequel to showing a MAVERICK marathon on Labor Day.

If you think five years is something, you're gonna luuuuv this one.

Somehow it has become hip to be ignorant about old movies.
