Ending monologue

In Daniel's ending statement to the camera what is meant by or referenced when he speaks of pillow and cough?

I think he says "throw me a pill or two for my cough", (not pillow). My take on this somewhat perplexing line (and the last one: "I only came about my cough") is that he is speaking from a very general or universal standpoint, not only on behalf of his patients (a kind of warm-hearted mimicking) but on behalf of all humankind; our wants, our needs, our disappointments and ultimately, our strength and ability to cope, both physically and emotionally. I don't know whether it's tragic or encouraging, but it I find it shows empathy. I consider myself a realist, a sentimentalist but in no way a pessimist and this film hits the mark for me, it finds that perfect balance between melancholy and humanism.
