Make-Up

In some scenes the make-up was just too obvious. Glenda Jackson had a big mole/zit covered in too white of cover up on her cheek and poor Peter Finch was made to wear lip color.

Didn't detract from the excellent acting and script.

exactly. But, that was the thing about 70s films. They were more concerned about the story and performances that they let go of the usual screen vanity. The best decade of films ever!

Keep in mind that *everything* advances over time -- cameras + lights + sound equipment become more sophisticated; hair dyes are gentler and have better color range than they used to; and makeup (consistency) plus application techniques are better.

Try to remove your 2014 goggles when you watch older films and concentrate on the stories being told and the writers/actors/directors who are telling them -- esp when you're watching a movie of this calibre.
