In some scenes the make-up was just too obvious. Glenda Jackson had a big mole/zit covered in too white of cover up on her cheek and poor Peter Finch was made to wear lip color.

shareKeep in mind that *everything* advances over time -- cameras + lights + sound equipment become more sophisticated; hair dyes are gentler and have better color range than they used to; and makeup (consistency) plus application techniques are better.
Try to remove your 2014 goggles when you watch older films and concentrate on the stories being told and the writers/actors/directors who are telling them -- esp when you're watching a movie of this calibre.
