I'm Astonished

I remember the Acadamy Awards and the announcement of Sunday Bloody Sunday. Ah yes, 1971. The title of this movie popped into my head suddenly and for no reason so I thought I'd research it. Homosexuality/bisexuality was explored in film as early as 1971. I'm Astonished.

Now, yes it is astonishing, but it was quite typical of the late 60's in London.
Britain has a good record in filming gay/bisexuality themes, over many years, and no overt uproar either. Look at "Death in Venice", or "Victim".

I am more astonished that there was all of that massive hype surrounding Brokeback Mountain in 2005, yes 2005, when we in UK were producing general release film far more daring 35 years before it! And A-list actors in the roles.

I am sure middle England would not like SBS back then, but they didn't watch it, and more importantly, nothing so vulgar as make a fuss, publicly!

Darling had the first gay part played wonderfully by Roland curram in 1965
