At the end of the movie, did the boy and the woman have sex? Or did they just sleep next to each other? To me, it looked like they just hugged.

Did he use with her the condoms he had bought earlier?

I would assume he did, but that's never made clear. In the emotional intensity of the moment, who knows? Maybe not.

According to the film's writer, Herman Raucher, in the real-life incident that inspired the scene in the movie, they did not have intercourse. He said it was not shown in the movie to leave it open to the audience's interpretation. Maybe they did, or maybe they just held each other.
