I worked on this film

I worked on this film and it was quite an experience..... Spent many nights screening the film's progress at Premingers home just west of Lexington Avenue. It was the hardest job I ever worked on in my 20 years in the film business but the experience was unique.... Preminger could be both a tyrant and charming. He made Dyan Canon cry the first day of shooting.... He tore into me a few times also.....Met his son Eric who seemed to be a decent guy. It's hard for me to judge the film as I lived with it for about 4 months ..... I think it might have been better for a made for TV movie instead of for the theaters... It was a film for a limited audience.....

I want to know about the making of "Just Good Friends" as well. What did you do? Editing? And what did he do to make Dyan cry. She always struck me as unflappable. I know she couldn't stand him. She once said he couldn't direct his little nephew to the bathroom.

I have never seen "JGF" and I have heard it both ways. Some critics said that it was cheap and vulgar, others said that it was clever black comedy. Me, I am and have been a Preminger fan. I'll watch anything from him.

I just watched the film again last night (on bootleg video) and it is wonderful. Dyan Cannon is at her best, and her little fantasies and flashbacks are expertly cut into the present-day story. It has the look of a TV-film, but some unexpected dazzling touches, like a great, winding shot of the museum where Cannon and Laurence Luckinbill dance and a fabulous opening shot inside Dyan's closet. I showed this to a friend of mine and we both laughed and enjoyed it. I'd love to know more about the goings-on behind the scenes, how did Preminger get Burgess Meredith to strip down (hilarious!!) and why was Cannon so unhappy?

I saw this movie years ago and would love to see it again. If anyone knows where I can get a copy please let me know: [email protected] Thanks!

'SGF's soundtrack by T.Z. Shepherd and R. Britton is a gorgeous accomplishment.

One of my favorite movies, Dyan Cannon is perfect. At times the dark humor comes off ugly rather than funny, but most of the time it works. I don't see "TV film" in this at all; like notes elsewhere indicate, it's a companion piece to Diary Of A Mad Housewife.
