Why is this being remade?

It is perfect! What are they going to get Michael Bay to produce it and add some director that did some commercials? Also they will probably exaggerate the deaths with more gore or the dreaded CGI.

You young punks continue to overrate movies like Straw Dogs by saying it's not only good, but perfect. If it's so perfect, it wouldn't be panned by older women in particular. The same group of women who don't mind most other violent guy flicks (including A Clockwork Orange and most Peckinpah films) seem to hate Straw Dogs. Maybe because the other films were actually good films and not just violent and controversial. But as Straw Dogs proves, controversial doesn't always equal quality. Don't even get me started on the acting in Straw Dogs. Yes, Dustin Hoffman was good as always. But if Susan George and most of the other performers were as good, why did their careers go largely unnoticed? Del Henney, who played Charlie (maybe the third most prominent character in the film), only acted in several more films after Straw Dogs. The same goes for Ken Hutchison. Even the more famous actors like Peter Vaughan and David Warner have done better in films less valued than Straw Dogs. Bofor's Gun, anyone? The worst thing about Straw Dogs, in retrospect, is that it's an ultimately pointless film that probably could use a remake. You can't make Hoffman's character a pacifist and villain at the same time.

Hilarious post. Thanks.

Well it certainly made an impression on you. Enough so that you've felt the need to continue posting on this board for over a year.

You yo-yos on these boards give me a giggle. "A remake is unnecessary." As though your opinion counts for anything at all, anywhere. The film will be remade if somebody thinks they can make some money out of it, or if someone with access to money feels driven to do it. Nobody will ask Mathew2468 (or me). You are like the dim bulbs who are perpetually saying that this actor or that "deserves a nom," as though Oscar nominations were up to you. Do you enjoy showing how limited and unsophisticated you are? Go sit behind the gas station and drink beer. Of course if you stop writing your posts, who will I have to feel superior to? Now that's something to consider. Carry on, carry on.

He was neither a pacifist or a villain, wanting to avoid conflict doesn't make you a pacifist and he does nothing worthy of being called a villain the whole movie

this movie is coming out right before the 2012 election to attack the tea party movement. They don't care if they make money or not on it. All thoughs anti-war movies during the bush administration flopped, even w/ huge star power. This movie will come out and fail.

reply

Are you saying that Straw Dogs is an anti war movie? In what way?

reply

I didn't mean to imply anti-war. I am implying that it will be a 2 hour re-election video for Barrak Obama. The anti-war movies of the last decade were all designed to attack the Bush presidency. When people start to get sick of comic book movies hollywood will stop making them (probably this year w/ 4 big ones coming up this summer). It's what hollywood does, the same thing over and over again until it is no longer profitable. None of those anti-war movies made alot of money, some were huge faliures. Yet hollywood still made them. I was impying that the reason was to attack the bush presidency. This movie will attack people who dissagree w/ president Obama.
