i think the film was cut on the version i saw. after the finish "having sex" well or whatever they did. there is a dialogue that was added up they do not talk.I mean it was made with a voice over where the mother tells to her song that all is ok about what happened and that it will not happen again an they will keep the secret for themselves. not sure if this is the scene cos there is another copy around with a very sad ending. the one i saw had a very happy ending where he ends up sleeping with the brunette girl.
please help..

I think you have seen the whole film. The UK Optimum DVD release certainly has dialogue between the mother and the son after sex which is out of sync with the on-screen image, but I think this is simply a mistake on the part of someone or other, not an edit. The ending you mention, where the boy then goes to bed with the brunette and comes back to his room to find his family there, is Malle's ending and the only one I've seen.

I saw this film in a very posh theatre on the Champs Elysée in Paris when it first came out in 1971. The ending was the same as mentioned above - Laurent coming in on his family with his shoes in hand looking a little sheepish at first and expecting to get all hell from his father. But no! The father looks stern for a second then smiles knowingly and general mirth ensues. Terrific film. I was 16 yo at the time and had never seen another boy masturbate. It made me very randy and I discreetly took full advantage of the wrap around chairs. It just seemed to fit in with the picture:)

That's the same cut I've seen, I don't think there is another edition...
