Poor quality DVD

I recently bought this as part of the Charles Bronson "Vital Hits" compilation DVD, only to find the quality of the film is really poor! And i'm not just talking about the fashion or Tony Perkin's hairstyle, but the actual physical quality is poor, with lines running across the screen. Does anyone know if the recent re-release of this film has been remastered, or if it exists in a better state?

Hm, I bought the region 2 DVD version

And all though the picture quality wasn't that good it wasn't so bad as lines running across the screen and stuff. I've seen worse picture qualities on old Bronson movies than I did in that copy of mine. Not a great movie either, but still a must-see for die hard Bronson fans as it shows him in a type of role unlike what he usually did.

Ahh, thanks for that. I might check it out - i got it more for Perkins than Bronson, but yes it's a remarkably different role to ones you usually see him in. Thanks for the link :)

Look, out of fear I'll tip you into buying something you'll regret - like maybe you'll buy it and go "what the hell, this wasn't any better," I can rip a small exerpt from the DVD - like a 10 second clip or something - and mail it to you if you have a mail adress that can accept big files (like Gmail or something)? That way you can see whether it is worth buying all over again.

reply

Hmm, that's a good idea - thanks! unfortunately i don't have Gmail but i can just as easilysign up for it. Is it free? I also have AOL and yahoo email, will it work on those?

reply

I don't know. I'm not sure you can sign up easily for Gmail yet, I think you still have to be invited to open one. They have a 2 GIGABYTE in/outbox and can receive files that are like 10-20 megabyte each. If you send me your email in a private message I can send you a Gmail invite if you can't sign up. (I have 50+ to give away)

Do you mean Gmail as in the new email service run by Google? Just looked at this and it sounds pretty good.

If it is this one, then i'll certainly send you relevant details - I collect Tony Perkins' films but am not too sure whether to get this or not. Its not a great film (albeit for Charles Bronson's character, in a markedly different role) so a snippet of the film to see its quality might be a good idea.
Thanks, much appreciated.

Yes I mean Gmail as in the one run by Google. Use the message-system here on IMDb and send me your e-mail adress and I'll send a Gmail-invite to that adress.

The only problem I had with mine was the colour was faded, and some speckles showing up. Watchable though. I wonder if this film would ever get a better release. I just don't think so.

It sounds like the DVD was just copied for the poor-quality VHS from Front Row Entertainment. I also had lines running across the screen, and you could tell that some film was lost because there were abrupt cuts. Still, I only paid a buck for it, so I can't complain. And call me psycho, but I loved Tony Perkins hairstyle and those groovy '70s duds.
