Thank you i'm so glad someone else said this. I always thought that they ripped it off an just turned it into a comedy.

And changed where the Asian character came from. Chan is Chinese, Mifune is Japanese.

Red Sun is actually pretty much a western action/comedy. Bronson had GREAT comedic timing when given the lines and the opportunity. Check out Bronson hamming it up in You Can't Win 'em All or Breakout if you want to see how funny ol' Stone Face could be while still delivering the action.

Shanghai Noon ripped off more than one scene from this movie and I would definately call it an un-official remake for sure. Many other similarities outside of just the demeanor of the Bronson/Wilson characters.

Maybe "Tokyo Noon"?!?

What is with people on this board and mixing Japanese up with Chinese? Japan is influenced by China but other than that they do not have closely related cultures.

And this film is nothing like 'Shanghai Noon'.

I take Shanghai Noon as movie that paid homage to movies like this one (rather than being a remake.. or a rip-off), like Star Wars homaged sci-fi classics like Flash Gordon.
