Sword hanging at the end

What was the significance of the sword hanging from the wires at the end?
Bronson said he was going to return it. Does this mean he changed his mind?

reply

No, he left it there for te ambassador on the train that was arriving.

reply

He didn't want to give it directly to the ambassador because it was a disgrace for the samurai who failed to complete his mission. The samurai will remain a legend.

reply

lol..naah.
if he gives it to him directly, then he's going to get hanged because he is a robber.
so he left it there for him instead.

reply

Actually, I think there were two reasons for the way it was handled.

1) Pacing. The climax had passed. The director decided to close the film as quickly as possible. A meeting between Bronson and the ambassador would have prolonged the movie too far beyond the final battle.

2) To show Bronson's disregard for the strict Japanese etiquette and ceremony.

reply

How did Bronson get the sword up on the high wire?

reply

beats me.

reply

Are you kidding me? It's Charles Bronson. He could have walked up the wire to leave the Katana. Chuck Norris once bit Charles Bronson. After 12 hours of agony and infection, Chuck Norris died. Then Charles Bronson gave Chuck Norris a transfusion of his own blood. Chuck Norris was revived and his legend grew. True story.

Can't say I was all that satisfied with the ending... leaving the sword hanging on the rail line where the mail bags get hung seemed a little weird, how would anyone know what to do with it, and how could he trust it would get to the president in Washington?

Seemed they just ran out of time and budget to do a decent ending?

The ambassador said he would be on the same train in a week, expecting delivery of the sword. Assuming that train at the end was the train in question (which makes sense), I trust someone would see it and know the ambassador was on board expecting it.

But I was wondering why he flipped the coin at the end. The only think I can think of is he was deciding whether to stay or not.

reply

Yay at least someone paying attention when watching movies. Always amazes me on IMDB forum.
Yes indeed, the coin flip meant exactly that. Guess it turned out to be tails, tuck tail and run and leave sword hanging for all to see so it wont get missed.
