Is it worth buying?

Stumbled across this title by accident is it a good film?

reply

Only if a good film to you means lots of mindless action and skin. I only enjoyed watching Ursula Andress undress (note the wordplay, hehehe!) in one scene and it didn't last that long. All actors are incredibly dull here, specially Delon and Bronson.

Boy this movie STINKS....
I give it a 2/10 for Ursula, it would have been 3 if we has seen the other 'one'.

BUY IT!!!

I've just seen the movie yesterday and it's a great fun movie. notice it's not a godfather, or in terms of westerns its not a once opon a time in the west but...

Cowboys, Samurais, Indians, vilains in black...and Ursula Andrews Naked(I dont think I've ever seen that before!) all with a western spaghetti flavour! it's a great fun movie to see! (just not sure why...the version I saw was in french wich was a bit strange but aded sort of a exoctic quality to a very exoctic film!)

...boys,boys,boys:
..1st of all, whats with the hang-up on Ursulla?! (i wouldnt mind if she was named "Ursulla Getdressed"....:P )..i mean, hasnt ANYONE noticed tht lovely spaniard,Moniqa Randall?!(..she btw shows more,n of much better quality :P)
..secondly,thts no "spaghetti western" (..can u call it pate` western?!be my guest...it was not an italian production,it was rather a FRENCH 1..)
...now u gonna tell me,spaghetti or foie gras-whts the difference?...well the difference was terrence :-)
now seriously,it didnt have the same "italian flavor",all those "spaghettis" do...And it surely isnt the classical western.
..But if u expect bang-bangs,raping horses, and ridding off on the women.....well thts not yr film.I mean, sure there's "romance",sure there's shoot-out scenes, but thts NOT the kinda action this film is at its very best at (and some of the posters here, shouldnt complain abt the OBJECTIVELY poor action scenes, cause the whole idea ISNT the "classic" action..)
So what is it then.
..Well,its basically the FIGURES of the main "heroes"...
What this film has to "offer",is the "drawing" of the basic 2 characters.
And if u fall in love with them, along with the "relationship" tht gradually forms between those 2,then the film has served its purpose...Once again:This "western",isnt abt what the main characters DO...ITS ABT WHO THEY ARE...:-)
...and in my opinion, whoever wrote the script for those 2,did a nice enough job(..was this a book btw?..i dunno.....:-)
(for example,u have to be very scrutinising in attitude,to NOT miss the FINE character of the samurai(noticed how he "behaves",when "provoked" by Link,in tht whorehouse?..pay attention to what his MEANINGFUL reactions are, when he e.g. is abt to get to bed with tht girl...None of his doings were either "random" or "mainstream"...very good scripting/directing job done here,i think...[..dull?!...hmmmm..ok..this is not arnold swarzegmnklgrnjskdhnegger character here...:P...u EXPECT such "action"-u GET bored-thts true.
..All n all,the film is a small gem...it surely has a lot of parts tht are messy,ill-directed,performed(mostly those "infamous" action scenes...),but,when the main 2 characters interact..well...i take my hat off :-) (..nice music too, fitting to the whole thing, wrapping it up quite good, giving a "warm" feeling...
..WHAT U SHOULD DO:..well,i love this film as a whole,but i wouldnt go n say "ok,ya'll buy it"....But give it a chance.Rent it at least:-)...To some,i know its WORTH it...To others..well,like i said,just give it a try.

PS:..well,i emant to,n i did forget, but i guess its never late,to mention Bronson's "best" "performance" in this film (he sure is helped by his looks at tht very stage of his life, and the script by itself)..one,tht like somebody else here stated, bares a lot of humour-which usually ISNT(?!) present in Bronson's performances...
[abt tht last one,i want to say mmmmmmmmmmmm im not so sure...Theres another film with Delon(Farewell Friend),in which Charles seems to be of a similar disposition..And another-id nt remember its title right now)with his wife Jill Ireland,in which he "produces" the more or less same character....A kinda sarcastic one(and i got the feeling tht those other 2 are just not all there is......)

I can try and avoid my absolute love of the film so as to try and explain it as a regular moviegoer:

A bit cheesy, but entertaining enough given the premise.
Secretly I give 10/5 stars, but my opinion doesn't speak for all.

Now I have three sequels. Ho ho ho.

I decided to check out this film knowing nothing about the director or the plot, but just because it had Bronson and Mifune in the same movie and holy hell was it a great combo and a spectacular East-Meets-West western, it should be more well known.

reply

This film is worth every penny.

Bronson and Mifune are excellent together, the deserts scenes are beautifully shot, the shooting scenes are entertaining, the comedy is quite funny, and the women... oh yeah. In short, it really is a fantastic film in every way.
